The municipality of Vilamaniscle is situated in the midst of the nature park L’Albera and close to the city of Garriguella. The nature park, lying at the foothills of the Pyrenees, is of picturesque beauty - here, you will find olive trees, small streams and ruins of settlement originating from the New Stone Age. The landscape contrasts with the coast, the vegetation is overwhelming, and you meet tourists only little here.
Vilamaniscle is a place of tranquility and withdrawal offering the opportunity to reach the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava or the French border within 15 minutes by car.
The old castle ruin “Castell de Vilamaniscle“ (Can Gorgot) predominates in the little village in the bottom of the nature park. It originates back to the 17th century and still contains ruins of its defense wall. It was firstly recorded in the year 1651 in which the castle was privately-owned by the Gorgot family until the 20th century.
The cloister “Monastir de Sant Quirze de Colera“ is a building worth seeing. It is situated about 20 minutes by car from Vilamaniscle and can be reached over a track through the forest. This is a beautiful place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the crowded streets of the cities in summer.
