Vilajuïga might be attractive because of its culinary delicacies but you should also stay there because of its charme and its location in between the gentle hills of the Pyrenees. The delicious wine as well as the mineral water coming from the village’s source contributed to the fame of the region.
Although you meet a lot more people than in some mountain village, a pleasant tranquility lies over the streets which are surrounded by palm trees and blooming rhododendrons. The mixture of old stone houses and facades painted in shades of orange and red give an interesting oriental touch to the village. Small cafés along the roadside attract with their cosy ambience.
Villajuïga is the perfect place to escape the everyday life without forgoing the urban character. A school, a pharmacy, as well as many shopping facilities - a fish shop among them - are available here. Neither Figueres nor the picturesque coast or the French border are far away.
